Suzanne is passionate about representing employers, and assists them with all aspects of employment and HR-related issues. She, along with John Potanovic, is proud to be one of fewer than 200 attorneys who are Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Florida Bar. Suzanne also holds the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) designation, the highest certification available from SHRM for HR professionals.
Suzanne regularly assists her clients with employee handbooks; wage/hour audits; supervisory training; EEOC/FCHR/NLRB administrative charges; and employee termination, leave, and disciplinary issues, and she strives to help clients proactively and cost-effectively resolve workplace issues. When litigation cannot be avoided, Suzanne represents her clients in employment litigation, including Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, whistleblower statutes, and all types of retaliation. She is an accomplished public speaker, frequently hired to speak to businesses and professional groups on various employment matters, and she regularly writes on employment-related issues. In addition to her trial court practice, Suzanne has significant appellate experience, having handled over 30 appeals on a variety of civil matters in both state and federal appellate courts.
Suzanne is very involved in the community, and currently serves on several boards, including the FGCU Foundation Board of Directors, the SHRM SWFL Board of Directors (2015 President; current Legislative Director), the Greater Fort Myers Chamber Board of Directors, and the Greater Fort Myers Chamber Foundation Board of Directors. She previously served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee 20A, which she chaired for nearly two years. She is a 2012 graduate of the Chamber’s Leadership program, previously served on the Chamber’s Women in Business Committee, and was a founding member of the Chamber’s Leadership NEXT Committee.
Suzanne has been recognized for her professional achievements and for her community involvement. She has received the HR Excellence Award from SHRM SWFL, and she has been honored as a 40 Under 40 recipient by both Gulfshore Business Magazine and the Business Observer. Suzanne has been recognized by Florida Super Lawyers® every year since 2010, and she has been named one of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, an honor fewer than two percent of Florida lawyers receive. She is also AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating available for legal ability and ethics.
Suzanne obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and her law degree from Stetson University College of Law. In law school, Suzanne was honored each year as a Stetson Merit Scholar, receiving a full academic scholarship. She served as an editor of the Stetson Law Review, and was awarded the St. Petersburg Times Award for Best Law Review Write-on Competition Paper.
Suzanne is a native of Southwest Florida. She grew up in LaBelle, and currently resides in Matlacha with her husband, children, and their dog, Fisher. In her free time, Suzanne loves being on the water, enjoying Matlacha sunrises and sunsets, and traveling…usually to other places on the water.
